It’s an e-reader, not a tablet, and it performs as such.

Once you’ve spent a few minutes writing and tapping around the interface, it begins to feel quite natural. There is some latency involved in using the reMarkable 2, but reviewers stated that it wasn’t too much of an issue in the long run. So be sure to have lamps, book lights, or plenty of natural lighting around if you plan to read, sketch, or take notes. Most reviewers felt that trading a thin design for an integrated light was a poor decision. However, if you’ve ever used virtually any other e-reader, you’re likely to be surprised by the lack of built-in lighting with the reMarkable 2. But that’s to be expected with the technology. Pictures don’t load very well and are pixelated. It’s an e-ink display that does best in black and white. The 10.3-inch Canvas display is simple yet refined. Still, it’s nearly bezel-less, which allows for more surface area to write and draw on and feels more like a folded magazine in terms of weight than your typical tablet or e-reader. However, it’s heavier than the first-generation reMarkable - thanks to its more premium aluminum chassis over the previous plastic one. Reviewers all noted how surprisingly thin the reMarkable 2 is. Besides being a more green option for this day and age, what else does the reMarkable 2 have to offer?

And most of the notebooks we tested had 7 mm lined ruling (close to college rule), but we note the exceptions below. The reMarkable 2 is an e-Ink slate with the goal of replacing paper without losing any of the aesthetic that comes with writing. We also mention paper weight or thickness when that spec is important, but most of these high-quality pages are 80 to 90 gsm (grams per square meter) thicker isn’t always better, but all of the paper in our picks felt substantial and satisfying for us to write on. We mention price per page when it’s notable, but our picks average 7¢ per page (at this writing). The more tooth a paper has, the rougher it is generally, toothy paper is great for pencils because charcoal adheres better to paper that isn’t super smooth.

It can be a source of joy, a covetable item that turns an ordinary, everyday task-note taking, journaling, task planning, brainstorming, or doodling-into a sublime experience. A notebook is more than just a practical tool.
